I recently received an email from www.RepowerAmerica.org with the subject “Now What?”.  In the email they talk about the results of the presidential election and how “the American people are calling for  bold change“.  I agree, take a look at their video:

In the same email, they also quote Al Gore:

We’re borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroy the planet. Every bit of that’s got to change

I believe Passenger Energy could greatly aid this effort through increased conservation.  Hmm, ”increased conservation”, is that an oxymoron?  I’m not sure, but I would like to hear what you think?

Street view in Google Maps MobileAlmost everyone has a cell phone now and many have built in GPS capability.  Most cell phone networks are offering location-based service (LBS) to easily identify the whereabouts of an individual.

Some of these are combined with a web based service like Loopt to identify a precise location of a friend or family member.  Wherify and Sprint Family Locator are two other examples of this technology already being implemented around the country.

This type of technology could help ease concerns when accepting rides.  Now you can easily find the location of your family and friends through their cell phones.

Obama Rally

Last night Barack Obama won the Presidential Election of 2008.  During his acceptance speech he said the following:

“It can’t happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice.

“So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other.”

Is this just talk or are we ready to change and start making a difference today?

Vote for GreenOn the eve of this year’s election, you hear a lot about the candidates’ energy plans.  Both McCain and Obama talk about clean coal, off shore drilling and nuclear options.  What you do not hear enough of is conservation.

Conservation is the best way to reduce our demand for foreign oil.  No matter who you vote for tomorrow, we must ensure our next president makes developing alternative energy solutions a priority while cutting our consumption levels.

Hypermiling is an interesting method of increasing your car’s gas mileage by making changes in the way you drive.

IMG_1046.JPGAccelerating more slowly away from green lights and stopping more gradually for red lights can cut fuel consumption by 25 percent or more.  This change along with maintaining more steady driving speeds would have a dramatic effect on reducing our current energy consumption.

With today’s high traffic congestion, vehicles are getting lower mileage due to more frequent braking, an ever increasing amount of idling time and longer commuting time.  If Passenger Energy could reduce the number of vehicles on the road, we would not only save big on all the vehicles left home, but also by running the remaining ones much more efficiently.
